Stepper Card - The Race

Here is another stepper card made by Lynn using Kanban Card Toppers - The Race
as the focal point.

The Race - Black & White

The card base has been created using the Craft Creations small white dots on black card found in our shop or on-line at The Mulberry Bush.  An organza white ribbon has been threaded through the die cut foiled tag.

These Card toppers and accents featuring vintage racing cars in Black and White from Kanban make lovely male themed cards.

Add a selection of black and white buttons and you have a unique dimensional looking card for the man in your life!

Bella in Pot - Wild Rose Studio stamp

Following the release of the new Xmas Bella Collection from Wild Rose Studio, Nicky has been busy making some cards using her Promarkers.

She has used the 'Bella in Pot' A7 acrylic stamp set

A snowy day, sprigs of holly, an adorable elephant and a festive message - this stamp is all you need to make beautiful festive cards.
Bella in Pot
Nicky has used this lovely C6 Kraft card for her base card.

C6 Pure Kraft Cards with Envelopes - Pack of 5

Pack of 5 High quality pure smooth kraft 280gsm cards and envelopes.

She has then stamped her 'Bella in Pot' and die cut a heart shaped which is layered onto a die cut scalloped heart using Silver Mirri board card.

Nicky has then coloured in her stamped image using Promarkers.

Finally, Nicky has added some organza ribbon and filled in some snowflakes with a white pen.

If you like making your own Christmas cards, this would be quick and easy, if you have lots to make and be ready to post in time or Christmas 2012!

Napkin Art on glass bowl.

Two lovely ladies popped into the shop last week on a detour from Essex.  Lynn was sat at her crafting table in the shop and demonstrated to the ladies how to decorate a glass bowl using Jo Sonja's glass and tile medium with napkins.  She had a good old crafty chat with them while she decorated her glass bowl.

Jo Sonja's Glass and Tile Part A 250ml Bottle
Glass and Tile Primer (Part A) prepares glass, glazed ceramics and enamel for painting, providing additional bonding for the paint.

Jo Sonja's Glass and Tile Part B 250ml Bottle
Glass & Tile Medium (Part B) can be added to Jo Sonja's Artists' Colours to make them suitable for painting on glass, glazed ceramics and enamel.  It should be used in conjunction with Glass & Tile Primer if item cannot be cured in the oven.

We have a large collection of napkins in our shop and on line here at The Mulberry Bush.

Here is a close up photograph of the glass bowl.  Lynn has yet to paint the inside of the bowl with Jo Sonja's paints and then apply some Jo Sonja's All Purpose Sealer.

If you are interested, Lynn Courtney runs Home Décor workshops on the 2nd Saturday of every month.  This workshop will resume after the summer holidays but if you wish more details about learning techniques of napkin art, working on wood, playing with paints, crackle and much more, transforming your everyday objects please give Lynn a call on 01635 860900.

Best Wishes - Stepper Card

Lynn recently made this stepper card after being inspired by Nicky's stepper card seen here in this blog post http://flutterbycraftsberkshire.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/kanban-vespa-frames.html

She has used the lovely Craft Creations dotted cardstock for the base card which
comes in A4 sheets.

The small white dots on purple in a lovely card weight of 240gsm card.
It is also available in gingham and stripes in various colours.

Lynn has layered the topper using the Tonic Studio Shape-Mates Oval .

A lovely die cut sentiment has been inked around the edges and placed above an organza ribbon.

If you need help with the dimensions, just pop into the shop where Lynn and Nicky
are sure to help you out.

You've been friends - Scrapbook Page

Catherine Inglis has designed this Scrapbook Page around a gorgeous photo of Max (her son) and his best friend Harrison.

Catherine has used Kaisercraft papers from the Magnolia Grove Collection.  The scrapbook pages are double sided and she has used the reverse side of pages from the collection.

Here Catherine has used the acrylic Time stamp from Kanban.  She has printed her journalling onto coordinating card and cut strips of various lengths to add interest.  I love the tape measure ribbon which can be found in our bricks and mortar shop.

Here she has used the gorgeous Kaisercraft Rub On Word Transfers - LAUGH  which is available on-line at The Mulberry Bush.

Newsletter - July 2012

Meet our very own star!
Well done, Nicky.
Hi Everybody

Now, before I start, I know that this is going to be a long newsletter so you had better get a cup of tea and put your feet up.

Ready?  Then let me begin.........Who amongst you like the Creative Stamping magazine?  If you have not yet read it and you are a stamper, you need to check it out.  If you like it already, then you will especially love this quarters issue because it is featuring our very own star, Nicky!!

Not only were FOUR of her card designs selected for a two-page spread inside the magazine, but ONE was selected for the front cover!!

The cards are designed around the set of free stamps that come with the magazine and Nicky has done a stunning of job with them - as we would expect!!

Well done, Nicky we are proud of you!!

The next thing I am going to talk about is something very serious.  Earlier this week I was walking my dogs on the park and someone asked me if I was closing the shop.  It's alright, don't go into heart failure, because it is not true - but it did make me realise how easily rumours can get around and grow.  I know that some of you have heard what is about to happen to the bead shop, now I am going to tell the rest of you.

As most of you know, we started 8 years ago, just with cardmaking supplies, in the tiny little wooden building that is up on staddle stones.   Over the years we have moved things around - taking the workshop upstairs, moving the paper to the bigger shop, expanding from cardmaking to scrapbooking to beads, wool and home decor.

Well, now the time has come for us to make our next move!!

As time has gone on I have found it very difficult to keep spreading myself between the two shops and the workshop.  Also over the past few years I have been relying heavily on Ruth to keep the Bead & Wool shop together, but now Ruth has decided that she would like to retire.  Also the wool has not quite hit the market that we thought was out there.

So, rather than try to carry on the way that we have been, I have made the decision to take a limited supply of the beads over to the main shop and to gradually sell off the wool.

The Bead & Wool shop will close it's doors on Saturday 28th July and until then there is a sale on all beads, findings and wool - so if you want to get some, come now!!

Watch out for the movement in the big shop over the coming weeks, we will be changing things around to make room for the beads and bits.

There, let that be the end of all bad rumours - I cannot believe I wrote so much about one subject!!

I think if I did anything with the paper shop there would be an uproar from you crafters and the local Brides.

Cate has been working so hard this spring and summer.  It seems that all her weddings (sorry Brides, they are HER weddings not YOURS!!) are happening at once and she is busy getting all the table plans made before she disappears on holiday.

Also, if any of you fancy a tea party take a look at PinkTeaParties. Leanne is based in Woolhampton and Cate makes all the stationery for her.  Lovely lady.  I fancy a tea party!!

It was good to see so many of you at the Art Stamp show last weekend.  We had great fun running the Hubby Corner - our 3rd year and the Hubbies are getting used to coming to see us!!  I hope you all became inspired to have some fun with your crafting.

I had great fun with my workshops and we decorated some beautiful boxes.

This box is decorated using the crackles with iridescent paint and it is so cute.

Nicky helped some lovely ladies to play with their Promarker pens and they had a grand time decorating tins.

This one has been decorated as a holiday fund tin - perhaps Nicky is hoping it will encourage the sun to come out.

Now, talking of the Art Stamp Show makes me think that it will soon be time for the NEC coach trip in November - I understand that it is on the 2nd weekend.  I will be running it.  If you are interested, details will be out in the middle of August.  If you want me to email you the details as soon as I have finalised them - then email me on lynn@flutterbycrafts.co.uk and I will get the information out to you.

Scary that we are getting that late into the year already.  Let us hope for an Indian Summer - it will make us all feel better before the winter hits us!!

What else have I got to say?  Oh, yes, I have had a wonderful couple of weeks with my visitor from Australia.  Unfortunately my return from her workshop in Wakefield was tinged by sadness, because we lost our oldest Lab - Kip - the day after I came back (he was old and it was not unexpected, poor soul!).

Bless her, Vicki worked so hard teaching me to paint.  I think she realises that I will never be a natural, but I will be practising and trying very hard.  I had so much fun and I have come home with a couple of lovely pieces that will sit beautifully in my new house.

This is a picture of my Pansy Box, I am very proud of it.

That is the other thing.....we have sold the house, watch this space for details of the move (please keep fingers crossed that it all goes well!).  GC & I are sooo excited.

Well, I think that is that for now.  I hope you all have a good summer holiday and that the weather picks up for you and the kids.

With best wishes from Lynn and the Girls.

Kanban - Vespa Frames

For this stepper card Nicky Hayden has used elements from the Kanban Die Cut Vespa Frames available in the shop or on-line at The Mulberry Bush where we stock a large collection.
Kanban Vespa Frames - Lilac & Turquoise
The Vespa Frames by Kanban come as A4 Sheets of Card packed with printed frames and assorted elements. These are all die cut for easy use and will press out of the sheet but, for optimum neatness, run a sharp knife along the cut to slice through the notches.

Nicky has used A4 (240gsm) Gingham patterned card for the stepper shape base and some coordinating lilac lace, available from the shop.

A spray of mixed flowers is always a great addition to a card.

The die cut sentiment is included in the set of Kanban Vespa Frames and the colours coordinate beautifully with the added embellishments.

The stunning butterfly card topper is hidden behind an acetate dome which is also printed with the same image.  It's was very difficult to take a close up photo but, please feel free to drop into the shop and take a look at the original card.

A close up showing you the detail and gorgeous die cut printed lilac frame.

These Kanban Vespa Frames can be simply used on their own for a quick card but as you can see Nicky has taken the card to another level using the stepper shape for interest and  chosen some lovely embellishments to make this into a stunning card.
